Power with the Pink Orange™

Sunkist × National Breast Cancer Foundation: Orange on the Outside, Pink on the Inside — and Full of Hope

At Sunkist, we’ve always believed in growing more than citrus. We grow community. We grow support. We grow hope. That’s why we’re proud to share our partnership with National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® (NBCF)—a collaboration designed to raise awareness, provide resources, and help more people access the care they need, right now.

Launched August 28, 2024, this partnership brings together our growers, retail partners, and shoppers under one bright idea: Power with the Pink Orange™—spotlighting our Cara Cara oranges, the orange that’s orange on the outside and naturally pink on the inside.

Why This Partnership Matters

NBCF is known for its mission of Helping Women Now®, delivering early detection, education, and support services nationwide—backed by a long track record of trusted impact. Through our partnership, Sunkist is supporting that mission while inviting consumers to turn everyday purchases into moments of meaningful support.

As Candice Hensley, NBCF Sr. Manager of Strategic Partnerships, shared: this collaboration helps expand early detection and support services to women across the country—work that matters in every ZIP code.

Spot the Pink Ribbon at Retail

This season, look for limited‑edition pink ribbon packaging across Sunkist Cara Cara 2‑, 3‑, 5‑, and 8lb bags—plus a full suite of in‑store displays (bins, stackable towers, posters, header cards, and channel rails) that make it easy to find and support the cause. Each element includes QR codes linking directly to more information about the partnership and ways to get involved.

We’re inviting our retail partners to join us, too. As our President & CEO Jim Phillips put it, this is a cause that touches so many lives, and we’re rallying the industry to show up—on shelf and beyond.

Beyond the Shelf: Year‑Round Ways We’re Showing Up

Starting in Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), our team is launching initiatives that extend far past packaging:

  • Influencer & survivor spotlights across social, elevating stories of strength and early detection.
  • Patient care packages and NBCF HOPE Kits, designed to comfort and encourage those navigating treatment.
  • Education & resource sharing, guiding our community to NBCF programs that support screenings, navigation, and more.

Inside Sunkist, our sister cooperative Fruit Growers Supply is joining the effort—another way we’re bringing our extended family together for a cause that matters.

And on our dedicated NBCF page, you’ll find ways to volunteer, fundraise, or partner, plus program details and contact info for retail activations. (We also seeded the launch with a flat donation to introduce the program, with plans to expand.)

Meet the Pink‑Inside Powerhouse: Cara Cara oranges

The hero of our campaign is the Cara Cara Navel—the “Power Orange” known for its naturally pink flesh (thank you, lycopene) and a nutrient lineup that includes 100% of your daily vitamin C per fruit, plus folate, fiber, and potassium. It’s the perfect symbol for the partnership: bright, uplifting, and genuinely good for you.

Orange on the outside. Pink on the inside. And a reminder that what’s within—care, strength, community—matters most.

2) Share the story. Post your Pink Orange moment and tag @SunkistCitrus to help spread awareness—especially throughout October. (We’ll be amplifying survivor and supporter stories all month.)

3) Get involved with NBCF. Volunteer locally, start a fundraiser, or explore partnership opportunities. Every action helps provide help and inspire hope

How Retailers Can Join the Movement

  • Merch the moment. Bring in the 2‑, 3‑, and 5‑lb pink ribbon bags, plus bins, towers, and headers that educate and convert—QR codes included.
  • Activate your associates. Use our turnkey talking points to help team members point shoppers to the Pink Orange and the NBCF resource link.
  • Tell the local story. Spotlight store teams, survivors, and caregivers in your community channels throughout October. We’ll provide creative assets to make sharing easy.

A Note From Our Grove to Yours

This partnership is personal. Many of us at Sunkist—growers, packers, team members, and families—have been touched by breast cancer. Standing with NBCF means standing with our community, and we’re honored to do just that.

As Jim Phillips shared, our commitment doesn’t stop at the shelf; we’re showing up throughout the year—together.
